No knocking down Khan’s ambition as he insists: I’ll still take on anyone

Boxing promoter Frank Warren went into a huddle with Amir Khan and his team yesterday for the most important decision in the Olympic silver medallist's professional career.

Khan will enter the ring at the Nottingham Arena on October 6 for his 14th fight, still intent on winning the world lightweight title by the age of 21. While the precocious Bolton fighter has 16 months to achieve that, Warren urges patience.

Scroll down to read more:

Khan got the shock of his young life when Scot Willie Limond, with no previous big punching record, sent him crashing in the sixth round and within a punch of being beaten 10 days ago.

Khan came back to take the Commonwealth title but the warning signs are clearly there about rushing him. He still insists: "I will come back better, a lot better. I'm up for fighting anyone."

ITV Sport, who have paid around £4million for Khan's six-fight deal, will hope for another spectacular but Warren said: "He's not going to be rushed just to satisfy some suit.

"Everyone will have learned from the last fight and you can blame me for the opponents because I will make sure I am happy with the opposition before I'll ever discuss it with Amir and his team."
