Nugent move to Everton on verge of collapse

David Nugent's dream move to Everton could be in jeopardy because Preston are asking too much money for him.

The England striker has admitted he is itching for a transfer to Goodison Park so he can play for the club he has always supported.

But the chances of what appeared to be a certain transfer to the Toffees look as though they are coming unstuck after North End boss Paul Simpson slapped a £10million price tag on the player's head.

Everton manager Dave Moyes may be a big admirer of Nugent's prowess in the penalty area but he is not prepared to splash out such a big fee for the 22-year-old, who scored on his international debut against Andorra in March.

"I've been linked with them since I was first at Preston. I'd love to join Everton, the club I supported as a boy and wanted to play for," Nugent said at the WKD Nuts Football Awards 2007.

"But I'm still young, I'm only 22 and could have 15 years left in football, and it could happen eventually."

Nugent has been named in the England B squad for the match against Albania a week tomorrow and he is also hoping to be part of Steve McClaren's full squad for the friendly at Wembley against Brazil and the Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia next month.

"I'm not sure where my future lies at moment, we'll have to wait and see," added the forward who is also coveted by Manchester City, Sunderland Portsmouth.
