The Nigeria striker has returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty to play his part in taking Newcastle away from the drop zone after they suffered their sixth defeat in nine games at Aston Villa on Saturday.
Newcastle have still yet to win in Keegan's five games in charge and it is nine games since their last victory, a last minute 1-0 win at Fulham on December 15.

Keegan fan: striker Obafemi Martins
Martins, who is hoping to shake off an ankle injury before champions Manchester United visit St James's Park next weekend, is still confident Keegan is the man to lead the club away from the bottom three.
The former Inter Milan striker said: "Kevin Keegan did a lot for Newcastle and all the fans love him. That's why they brought him back here. They call him the king, so I think that's very good.
"It's very good for him as well and the players are going to try and play for him and try our best to make him proud."
Keegan, meanwhile, has rejected any chance of Gateshead-born striker Andy Carroll leaving the club on loan before the end of the season.
Carroll, 19, has scored four goals in four reserve game since Keegan's arrival and has already had a spell on loan with Championship strugglers Preston.
But Keegan will not listen to any offers for the striker.
He said: "There's absolutely no chance. We just wouldn't be doing our jobs properly if we left this club bare. he can learn everything he needs to learn here at the moment."
