Olympic hopes are flagging for Maria Sharapova

Russian Maria Sharapova is a major doubt for Beijing after pulling out of the Rogers Cup in Montreal with a shoulder injury.

The World No3 had expressed a desire to carry the Olympic flag during the opening ceremony a week tomorrow but may now miss the event altogether.

Sharapova - back in action for the first time since Wimbledon - served 17 double faults in a three-hour 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win over Poland's Marta Domachowska.

Sharapova twice required treatment on her right shoulder.
