I know we've gone 21 games unbeaten, I know we got to the semi-finals of the Champions League, or the 'last four in Europe' as Arsene likes to put it, but whatever came before the last two games doesn't make what happened in them OK.
Defensively this team is a shambles. We can see why Kolo Toure lost his place this season, I don't even want to get started on Sylvester who, even at his best, was an average player, Gibbs did well but is just 19 and Sagna is struggling as the one constant in a back four which seems to change every week. Add to that a goalkeeper who would make Massimo Taibi look good and it's always going to be tough.
Afterwards Arsene thought his side unlucky, and to an extent he's right. We did well in the first half and had we taken one of those chances it might have been different. Might. However, the records won't show that Arsenal were unlucky or that Drogba dived, only that Arsenal conceded four goals in the league for the third time this season.
Chelsea: bluechampions.com: How about that!
How about that for a revenge! Great response and reaction from Chelsea. Arsenal won at Stamford Bridge in Nov 08. They beat us 2-1. I've been waiting so long for the return leg. I've been waiting for the payback time. I wanted Chelsea to beat Arsenal at the Emigrants. Today, Chelsea paid them back. And they paid them back in double. I'm so happy today. It's always a great feeling to knock the goners. Today, we didn't just knock them off, we just simply thrashed them. I heard that Arsenal were on an unbeaten run. 21 matches unbeaten and thrashed at home 4-1. If we were a bit better up front, we would have scored 7 or 8.
A spot in the next champions league is confirmed while Arsenal are forced to play some meaningful qualifying rounds next season. By the way, the only thing that was difference between Wednesday night and today was the referee. And yes, the score line t00. But heck, Arsenal were more threatening that Barca were in 180 minutes of football, home and away. You know what, Abidal got himself sent off against Villareal as they were held to a 3-3 draw with a 90th minute equaliser from Llorente.
Fulham: hammyend.com: What a difference a year makes
Hodgson's transfer record hasn't been flawless, but he's bought what we've needed. Who knows where we'd be now without Brede Hangeland at the heart of the defence? Mark Schwarzer is the kind of commanding goalkeeper a good side needs. Erik Nevland's popped up with some crucial goals and I'd imagine there's still more to come from Andy Johnson - and perhaps Bobby Zamora, but we won't open that can of worms once again right now. The best part of Hodgson's reign for me, though, has been how he's got the best out of average' players.
Understand that I use the term average' when talking about the Premier League. John Pantsil was a crowd favourite at West Ham, but more for his infectious attitude that his great performances. Pantsil himself acknowledges that Hodgson's really helped him come on as a footballer. Aaron Hughes looks a lot more assured now at centre back - that can't be a coincidence.
You look at how we utilise the ability of Danny Murphy, who's been an inspired choice as captain, as opposed to the hoofball under Sanchez and you see how far we've come. The pretty, passing football that we play nowadays mirrors the type of game we watched under Jean Tigana. But, thanks to the likes of Dickson Etuhu, we've got a bit of bite in midfield and won't be intimidated by the more physical sides.
There are, of course, always ways you can improve - and I'm sure Hodgson will be looking to do that over the close season. But, right now, as we did on Saturday, we should just salute the fine job he's done.
Tottenham: whitehartpain.com: Arsenal officially finished, let's make a day of it
St Tottering Day is a popular event for the Arsenal fans. It's a day they celebrate when it becomes mathematically impossible for Tottenham to finish above them in the league.
I watched Chelsea take Arsenal apart yesterday and was seriously shocked to see the once mighty Gunners destroyed at the Emirates. They claimed they were unlucky against Man Utd last week but I think yesterday's result well and truly confirmed that Arsenal are well and truly finished. Any team that ships seven goals at home in two games are in serious trouble. Spurs let in a grand total of zero against the same sides at the Lane this year.
Wenger took them to great heights but is no taking them downhill at an alarming rate through his stubbornness and outdated methods. When Harry Redknapp was going to play Hossam Ghaly and the fans reacted badly he took their opinions on board. If Wenger was in the same position, he would definitely not have reacted the same way. It's that part of his personality that is making Arsenal a laughing stock.
It looks to me like he's losing the dressing room. Robin Van Persie, a player who I thought would be key for them this season has now caught the famous Arsenal sulk and strut. It causes players to put in ten to fifteen percent effort each game and strut around the football pitch like they are a peacock. Former victims include Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Adebayor.
To celebrate this momentous occasion I think we should have our own day. The 10th May will now be known as St Arseing Day. On this special date each year we can rejoice safe in the knowledge there will forever be that unfortunate big blank space next to Arsenal's previous achievements displayed round the Emirates Stadium.
West Ham: www.westhamblog.co.uk: Mixed feelings
After getting a draw at Preston last night, it seems likely that Sheffield United will at least get to the play off final and may well get promoted back to the Premier League. I have really mixed feelings about them coming back up. Part of me thinks they don't deserve the fun and excitement of getting promoted, the other part will take great pleasure in watching them come up and get relegated again, and see who they sue this time. So, what do you think, shall we give them the pleasure?
