1991: The Welsh rugby union team were beaten 71-8 by New South Wales. It was the first time since 1881 that a Welsh side had conceded 13 tries in a match.
1999: Damon Hill decided to delay his retirement from Formula One until the end of the season following his fifth place at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
1999: Ipswich agreed to sell midfielder Kieron Dyer to Newcastle for £6.5million.

2003: Derbyshire captain Dominic Cork was handed a suspended £500 fine after calling Leicestershire's Brad Hodge a cheat for taking a catch in a Twenty20 match and appearing to step over the boundary.
2006: Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina were relegated to Serie B and deducted points and AC Milan deducted points after an investigation into match-fixing in Italian football. All the punishments were later reduced on appeal, with only Juve forced to play the following season in the second tier.
2007: Amir Khan got up off the floor to win the Commonwealth lightweight title against Scotland's Willie Limond in London.
