1938: BBC Television covered a Test match for the first time when they screened
part of the second Test against Australia from Lord's. The highlight of the match was Walter Hammond's 240 in England's first innings.
2000: Newcastle fly-half Jonny Wilkinson kicked an England Test record of eight
penalties, and a drop goal, as the tourists beat South Africa 27-22 in Bloemfontein.
Tennis legend Andre Agassi announced at Wimbledon that he would retire after that year's US Open.
2002: England suffered a humiliating eight-wicket defeat to Wales at Sophia Gardens in a warm-up for their summer one-day internationals against Sri Lanka and India.
2004: Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard confirmed his desire to remain at Anfield despite reported interest from Chelsea.

2007: Ricky Hatton beat Jose Luis Castillo with a fourth-round stoppage against in their light-welterweight fight in Las Vegas.
