1727: James Figg beat Ned Sutton in what is believed to be the first bare-knuckle boxing contest to have a title at stake.
1908: The first international football match between a British team and foreign
opposition took place in Vienna, England beating Austria 6-1.
2000: Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips was voted the Carling Player of the
Year after netting 30 Premiership goals.
2002: Former Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz was appointed assistant manager at
Manchester United.

2003: Casual Look, ridden by Martin Dwyer and trained by Andrew Balding, won the Vodafone Oaks at Epsom.
2004: Argentina's Gaston Gaudio won the men's singles title at the French Open,
beating compatriot Guillermo Coria 0-6 3-6 6-4 6-1 8-6.
2007: West Ham completed the £7million signing of midfielder Scott Parker from
Newcastle.
England beat Estonia 3-0 in Euro 2008 qualifying group E. Joe Cole, Peter
Crouch and Michael Owen scored the goals in Tallinn.
