1997: Jimmy Hill stepped down as Fulham chairman after 10 years and was replaced by vice-chairman Bill Muddyman.

2001: England midfielder Owen Hargreaves was part of the Bayern Munich side which beat Valencia on penalties to win the Champions League final in Milan.

Takeover plans: The Glazers at Manchester United

2002: Roy Keane left the Republic of Ireland's pre-World Cup training camp on the Pacific island of Saipan after a row with national team manager Mick McCarthy, who branded him "a disruptive influence".

2004: Wasps won the Heineken Cup after beating Toulouse 27-20 at Twickenham.

2005: Malcolm Glazer submitted his offer document revealing his takeover plans for Manchester United.
