1845: The world's first baseball club, the Knickerbocker Club of New York, was formed.



1970: Margaret Court of Australia beat Rosemary Casals to win the US Open and become only the second woman after Maureen Connolly to complete the Grand Slam of the four major tennis championships.

1983: Lancashire's Steven O'Shaughnessy scored 100 runs in 35 minutes against Leicestershire at Old Trafford - one of the fastest centuries ever seen in first-class cricket.

McLaren were fined a hefty £49.2million in the Formula One spy scandal

2007: McLaren were fined 100 million dollars (£49.2million) and were stripped of their points in the constructors' championship as a result of a Formula One spy scandal. However, the World Motor Sport Council opted not to dock the points from their drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.
