One race I can't call, so thanks for your support

The two questions I've been asked all week are: "How amazing was Jenson's win in Canada . . . and what's happening with Formula One on the BBC?"

The answer to the Jenson question is easy - that was his best victory yet. To have two accidents, a penalty, a puncture, be last on lap 37 and still win, provides a single-race snapshot of this incredible season.

It seems that audiences are loving the new-look F1, packed with pitstops and overtaking, encouraging drivers to take risks, keeping you at home of the edge of your sofa even with a runaway championship leader in the shape of Sebastian Vettel.

So while the sport is certainly holding up its side of the bargain, our job is also to rise to the challenge. To make you feel closer to the emotion and the action than ever before, take you into that pitlane with us - and that leads onto my second answer.

All of us in BBC Sport are proud of the multi-platform coverage we're able to bring to audiences. Never before have you been able to access live free practice on radio, the red button and internet each Friday, enjoy an hour's build up to qualifying and the race, right through to the cult hit that is the 'F1 Forum'. And that's before we get onto Eddie Jordan's shirts or David Coulthard's bird-watching skills.

More then 4million have tuned in to each of the past two qualifying Saturdays, which is remarkable. More than 6million watched the Monaco Grand Prix; it was more than 8million for Canada. The past three races have all recorded audiences at a 10-year high.

I would never claim the BBC was solely responsible for such impressive figures - we're just grateful to have the chance to broadcast brilliant sporting action. However, on a personal level I've been heartened by the online petitions, Facebook groups and Twitter messages which seem to be saying: "F1 has never been in safer hands".

Believe me, that means a lot to our hard working and talented production team whose sole aim is to deliver the best coverage for you - the audience.

With two thirds of the teams based in the UK, this is a sport worth an estimated £5billion a year to the British economy, employing British talents, crowning British world champions, inspiring young British engineers, and keeping this country at the epicentre of a global sport. This is a major UK sporting story, which we love covering live for nine months of the year.

At the moment, the BBC's contract is until 2013 but the next stop in this thrilling season is this weekend in Valencia, a place that traditionally hasn't provided the cut and thrust we've seen so far. Mind you, if it's even a fraction as exciting as Montreal, we're going to be in for another F1 treat . . .
