O'Neill bids to give Davies his Premier dream

Martin O'Neill has kicked off his August spending spree with an £8million offer for West Brom's Curtis Davies.

The 22-year-old centre half, who has had a transfer request turned down by Albion boss Tony Mowbray, has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League.

Although West Brom will try to hold out for a fee in the region of £10m, it is likely that O'Neill will land his man despite interest from Tottenham and Arsenal.

Davies, a £3m signing from Luton two seasons ago, became the second-youngest captain in West Brom's history just six months after his arrival.

Paul Robinson has resumed training with Albion after his £2.8m move to Wigan fell through. Wigan cooled on the deal after a medical.
