Ormsby backs Revie's Leeds bid

The battle for control of the club is expected to be resolved in court after creditors voted by the slimmest of margins to accept Ken Bates' offer to buy back the club, but it was so close administrators KPMG were forced to abandon yesterday's meeting and call for a recount on Monday morning.

Club at heart: Duncan Revie
Duncan Revie - the son of legendary former Leeds manager Don Revie - is fronting a bid from a Dubai-based backer, and Ormsby would welcome the return of the Revie family to Elland Road.
"I would like to see someone come in who has the club at heart," said Ormsby, who played for Leeds from 1986 until 1990 and still has close links with the club.
"Duncan Revie's dad is a legend at Leeds. There is a tradition with the Revie family, so it would be for the right reasons.
"If there could be someone with a Leeds connection, and a company to put in money, it would be great.
"I know Ken Bates isn't well liked by a number of the fans, but people have to remember he saved the club (when he became principal owner in January 2005).
"He has always said to people showing an interest in the club that he wants to see the colour of their money.
"In recent years, Ken Bates is the only person to have done that.
"If someone else wants to step in, that is what they have to do."
Bates, who placed Leeds in administration with debts of £35million on May 4, requires 75% of the vote to have his offer of 1p in the pound accepted by creditors and the original count showed he had 75.02%.
Bates was forced to call in the administrators before the last Coca-Cola Championship game of the season after the Inland Revenue issued a winding-up order due to an unpaid bill of £7million.
But with the approval of KPMG the club were immediately sold to a newly-formed company, Leeds United Football Club Limited, of which Bates is a listed director.
It is understood Bates faces opposition from five different consortia, with some now considering legal action should Bates emerge victorious.
Like many former players, Ormsby is dismayed to see how far a club which reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2001 have fallen.
But the 46-year-old is more concerned with the employees of the club whose futures could now be in jeopardy.
He continued: "It is not the players who will suffer, but the people who work at Leeds.
"The players will find another club, and get another contract.
"Nor will Ken Bates lose out, because he is a businessman.
"He will not sell unless it is the right deal."
