Jessica Ennis is on a high after her jump start

Jessica Ennis laid down the gauntlet to the athlete who denied her World Championship gold last year by equalling a personal best in the 60metres hurdles in her home town of Sheffield.
Ennis recorded a time of 7.95seconds yesterday, the fifth-fastest by any athlete in the world this year, giving her first blood in a season-long psychological battle with Russia's Tatyana Chernova leading to London 2012.
The pair look set to meet at least twice before the Olympics, in the pentathlon at the World Indoors in Istanbul next month and again in the heptathlon in Gotzis in May.
And following an impressive weekend of action at the Aviva UK Indoor Trials and Championships - Ennis also won the high jump on Saturday and threw a respectable 14.09metres in the shot put - she was all smiles.
"She [Chernova] might be having a sneak peak," said Ellis jokingly after her hurdles victory. "I'm sure she's getting on with her own thing in Russia and won't be too scared."
It's difficult to gauge Chernova's form, currently training indoors in her native Russia, but Ennis has the bonus of knowing that she is in a better position than she was a year ago.
The 26-year-old was forced to pull out ahead of day two of the same event in Sheffield 12 months ago with an Achilles tendon injury that cost her nearly six weeks in training.
Starting lower in her blocks than previous seasons in a bid to give her a more explosive start, she showed no signs of an injury concerns. "Last year, I had to pull out and had a setback with the Achilles so to come out with this is good," she added.
The World Indoors looks set to be a big month for Ennis but even more so for Dwain Chambers, who won the 60m at the trials with a season's best 6.58sec. The trip to Turkey could prove the highlight of his season unless the Court of Arbitration for Sport hearing on March 12 over the British Olympic Association's lifetime for previous doping offenders like Chambers goes in his favour.
"It's in my mind but it's out of my hands," he said of the looming hearing. "No matter what, I'm prepared for it [the Olympics]. If the opportunity opens up then I can go and compete to the best of my ability. I have to make sure I'm ready for whatever it is.
"No athlete has been given the green light at the moment. My position - although different - is also the same as other athletes. I'm trying to get there and stay fit."
Chambers goes to Istanbul as world champion but faces a possible clash with Jamaica's Asafa Powell, who has hinted he may run as part of his preparations for the Olympics.
Also hoping to make a mark in the 60m at the World Indoors is Jeanette Kwayke, who narrowly won the event ahead of Jodie Williams.
An Olympic finalist four years ago, Kwayke has had a torrid time with injuries and is only just getting back to her form of 2008.
"It's a humbling performance," she said yesterday. "But I need to step my game up and do well at the World Indoors before I start concentrating on the Olympics."
One of Britain's leading athletics medal contenders both at indoor and outdoor level this season is pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale, who dominated the event yesterday.
She sailed over her opening height of 4.52m, was equalling convincing in tackling 4.70m but could not perfect her technique as she attempted to break her own British record and clinch a season's best in the world of 4.89m.
