Our poor start is damaging my international hopes, complains Spurs defender

Pascal Chimbonda fears he is paying the price for Tottenham's poor defensive record by being constantly ignored by France coach Raymond Domenech.

Chimbonda has not been picked for France since the World Cup last year, when he was a Wigan player.

International wilderness: Pascal Chimbonda has not been picked for France since his move to Spurs

His £5.25million switch to Spurs was supposed to help cement his place in the side, but the club had one of the worst defences in the Premier League last season and have conceded 18 goals in nine games this term.

They take on Newcastle at St James' Park tonight having dropped into the bottom three.

Chimbonda said: "I do not understand why I am not being picked for France. Tottenham have had a bad start to the season and that could have something to do with it."

Radek Cerny is in goal due to Paul Robinson's calf injury, while Ricardo Rocha (ankle), Kevin-Prince Boateng (ankle) and Ledley King (knee) are out.

Anthony Gardner and Teemu Tainio have thigh problems.
