Owen deal agreed for Hatters

Luton administrator Brendan Guilfoyle has announced that a deal has been agreed with the Nick Owen-fronted consortium to buy the troubled League One club.

The troubled Hatters, who face Liverpool an FA Cup third-round replay at Anfield tonight, are hoping to tie up a deal with group led by the former breakfast television presenter.

Agreement: Nick Owen heads a consortium

"We are now in a position to assess the sale of the football club, subject to approval, to the Luton Town FC consortium which includes Nick Owen," he told Sky Sports News.

"I'm certainly hoping this brings an end to the trouble at the club."

"I've largely secured the funding to get to the end of the season," added Guilfoyle.

Whether the deal has arrived in time to persuade boss Kevin Blackwell and his management team of Sam Ellis and John Carver to stay on remains to be seen.

The trio handed in their notice on Friday - which runs out after the clash with Bournemouth on February 9 - after the administrators agreed to sell captain Chris Coyne to Colchester and midfielder Dave Edwards to Wolves without their knowledge.

The club also denied all 17 FA charges levelled at them in relation to payments to agents between July 2004 and February 2007 last week.
