Owen: It was not just Robbo at fault

England striker Michael Owen has defended under-fire keeper Paul Robinson after his blunder against Germany at Wembley last night.

Owen said: "He didn't say much in the dressing room. But there were plenty of people who made mistakes last night - not least me.

"I missed two good chances and not as much gets said about me."

Owen expects England to perform better in the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia next month after hinting his team-mates struggle to motivate themselves for friendlies.

"History says we've always done better in the meaningful games. The lads aren't machines - they can't play 100 per cent all the time."
