Palacios kidnap horror

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has allowed Wilson Palacios to make his mind up whether he returns to Honduras in the wake of his brother's kidnapping.

Bruce has told the midfielder he is free to return home after his 15-year-old brother Edwin was snatched from his home in La Ceiba, north of the capital Tegucigalpa.

Time off: Palacios can return home

Honduran officials reported that Palacios's parents were tied up as the teenager was taken.

Bruce said: "Obviously this is a serious issue and, of course, if Wilson thinks it necessary to be with his family at this difficult time, everyone understands.

"As a club we are trying to do all we can to support him and hope it's all resolved positively soon."

The midfielder was recommended to Bruce by Arsene Wenger and arrived at St Andrews in August from Honduran club Olimpia on loan for a fee in the region of £100,000.

A club spokesman said: "The matter is being dealt with capably by the Honduran police, therefore Wilson is staying in the UK in the hope that his brother will be returned to his family soon.

"Our thoughts are with Wilson and his family. Everyone at the club is praying for Edwin's speedy and safe return."
