During a semi-final second-leg in April, visiting team Sao Paolo had to come back out on to the pitch during the half-time interval because they were unable to breathe properly in the dressing room.

They ended the match losing 2-0 and still complaining of breathing difficulties while Palmeira went on to win the Paulista Championship.

Palmeiras claimed the gas could have been released by a fans through small windows linking the underground dressing rooms with spectator areas but a three-man tribunal ruled that, such was the quantity of the gas, this was not a probable.

The club, managed by David Beckham’s former coach at Real Madrid Wanderley Luxemburgo, was must also serve a two-match ban.
