Paul Collingwood's regret over Australia

Paul Collingwood is gutted Australia have been knocked out of the World Twenty20 - as it has denied England the chance to put one over on them before the Ashes.

Ricky Ponting's men were set to meet England in the Super Eight stage but their surprise defeats by West Indies and Sri Lanka means the tourists are left kicking their heels until they face Sussex in a friendly on 24 June.

England take on South Africa tonight as the Super Eight gets under way but Collingwood knows who he would rather be facing.

The Durham batsman said: "With the Ashes coming up, anything that can dent their confidence is worth its while. It depends on how they respond to getting knocked out.

"We set a marker when we played them in a Twenty20 game before a home Ashes series [England won by 100 runs in 2005]. It is a bit disappointing to see them out."
