PICTURE SPECIAL: Hark the herald angel swims - Tom Daley reveals heavenly form of backstroke

Captured in angelic pose this Christmas is Tom Daley, one of Sportsmail's Magnificent Seven prospects for London 2012.

First, however, the young diver is aiming to qualify for next year's Beijing Games, where he would become the youngest athlete to represent Britain at an Olympics at 14 years and 70 days. The next stage of his bid is the British Championships in Manchester on January 5.

Sportsmail's Andy Hooper took the dramatic image — flipped upside-down here to give it its angelic quality — at Tom's practice pool in Plymouth. It took him more than a dozen attempts to get this amazing picture.

'As he hit the water, I pushed the shutter release,' says Andy. 'In the hundredth of a second in between, Tom is shown enclosed in bubbles with his skin rippling under the force of impact.'
