PICTURE SPECIAL: Murray is the new McEnroe. . . you cannot be serious

No, it's not the two characters from that annoying advert for telephone enquiries. These are the pictures that show Britain's Jamie Murray is taking inspiration from tennis legend John McEnroe in more ways than one.

Wearing a red headband over his out-of-control retro curly haircut, Murray conjured images of Wimbledon 1981 when John McEnroe lifted the trophy with an equally ridiculous look.

At least the American had an excuse. . . it was the Eighties.

Doubles specialist Murray, who recently asked for a wild card to enter the singles event at SW19 next month, will now be hoping to imitate McEnroe on court.

But the omens were not good in Paris, where the 22-year-old and Max Mirnyi - his partner from Belarus - lost to Rik de Voest and Robin Haase 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the doubles first round.

Murray said: "We did not play badly. Their guys just came up with some pretty big shots when they needed to."
