PICTURE SPECIAL: Olympic Games diary - Swede goes bananas

Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian threw down his bronze at the medal ceremony in protest after his bid for Greco-Roman gold was ended by a decision his coach called 'politics'.

Abrahamian, 33, who lost to eventual gold medallist Andrea Minguzzi of Italy, said: 'I don't care about this medal. I wanted gold.'

Elsewhere, Great Britain's Shanaze Reade, overwhelming favourite for gold in the BMX, will not arrive until the last possible moment as she has stayed at British Cycling HQ in Manchester to practise on a start ramp constructed to exactly match the one in Beijing.

The 19-year-old's event begins on Wednesday.
