Pienaar to sign for Everton, but what of the boss?

Steven Pienaar will become the latest player to commit long term to Everton — even though the future of manager David Moyes remains uncertain.

Moyes has persuaded Joleon Lescott, Tim Cahill, Mikel Arteta and Andy Johnson to sign deals in the last 12 months and give the club much-needed stability.

Happy to stay: Pienaar is ready to commit his future to Everton

Pienaar will follow suit in the next 48 hours. The Borussia Dortmund winger's loan spell at Goodison has attracted interest from Arsenal and Valencia, according to reports in Germany.

But Pienaar has chosen to make his Everton deal permanent in the belief he can pursue his ambitions under Moyes.

That, however, will depend on securing the Scottish manager's services. The Goodison hierarchy have been slow to discuss a new contract with Moyes, whose deal runs out in the summer of 2009.

The relationship between Moyes and chairman Bill Kenwright remains excellent and reports suggest they will discuss the situation in the summer.

But not only will Kenwright have to come up with an acceptable offer for Moyes, he will also have to give assurances about transfer budgets.

Moyes has spent a fraction of what Rafa Benitez has at Liverpool and yet is pushing his illustrious neighbour hard for the fourth Champions League spot.

Moyes must wonder how much longer he can perform such miracles without the extra cash.
