Pipedreams could become reality for Godsen

John Gosden has high hopes for Cambridgeshire winner Pipedreamer this season but is reluctant to compare him with Halling, his 1994 winner of the famous handicap.

Halling went on to win the Group One Eclipse and International Stakes in his four-year-old season and Pipedreamer is also being prepared for a step up to Group races.

He is set to make his seasonal debut in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes next week and also has an entry in the Group One Lockinge Stakes.

But Gosden said: "People keep asking me to compare the two but Halling was injured early in his career and got going late.

"We always knew he was a Group horse and decided to get there via the handicap route to get there.

"Pipedreamer has just been a case of gradual improvement."

Of the lesser-known horses in his 142-strong string, Gosden highlighted Moonquake, an unraced Sheik Mohammed Danzig colt, as one to note and, more immediately, thinks Bronze Cannon will go close at Brighton on Sunday.

The trainer also believes twice-raced Virtual, a half-brother to Group Two winner Iceman who will make his comeback in a maiden at next week's Craven meeting, may need further.

Iceman never race beyond a mile but Gosden feels Virtual may need up to 10 furlongs.
