After 28 races, and notably 10 this season without scoring a point, Piquet unsurprisingly finds himself out of Formula One.

Yet the Brazilian, rather than going quietly, has chosen to point an accusing finger at Renault team boss Briatore, describing him as his "executioner".

Piquet released a strongly-worded statement saying that he had been told by Renault that he would not be continuing to drive for the team.

"I have received notice from the Renault F1 team of its intention to stop me from driving for them in the current F1 season," the statement said.
