Pitt bounces back to relaunch career with new team

Tim Pitt, who made such a big impression in his first year training in 2006 before parting company with principal backer Willie McKay two months ago, is to set up on his own.

He has rented 15 boxes from Tim Fitzgerald, who trains at Malton in Yorkshire, and will go to the autumn sales to build up a new team.

Pitt, 33, trained 31 winners in his first season, including Les Arcs to two Group One successes in the Golden Jubilee Stakes and the July Cup. He also won the Chester Cup with Admiral.

Things went wrong when his horses were hit by an infection in spring of this year. Then McKay brought over Danny Murphy, who had been training in Singapore, to assist Pitt. But the latter resigned on July 1.

He said: 'Life's tough at the top but I used to work for Peter Chapple-Hyam and he's made a great comeback so I don't see why I shouldn't.

'I had looked at various yards across the country but knew that Norton Grange was where I wanted to be when I saw the place. It has great facilities, excellent gallops and Tim FitzGerald has been hugely helpful to me.

'I'm very much looking forward to resuming my career and although I will be starting with a relatively small string, I have hopefully proved I can do it once and am more than determined to succeed a second time.'

Owners who have pledged to support him include the Sangster family and Pitt said: 'They had a filly with me earlier this year, have promised to support me and I have six or eight orders to go to the sales with.'
