Hot property: Vitorino Antunes
Portugal Under 21 left back Vitorino Gabriel Antunes has confirmed Celtic want to sign him on loan next season.
But Gordon Strachan faces severe competition for the highly-rated Roma player from English, Italian and Portuguese clubs.
Agents acting for Antunes, 21, claim the SPL champions are lining up a deal with the Serie A outfit amid speculation that Lee Naylor will head back to England.
Sportsmail revealed the Parkhead club had monitored Antunes last month but it is believed interest in Timothee Atouba at Hamburg and Matteo Brighi at Roma may have cooled as the cost of the overall packages rise.
Cameroon left back Atouba is rated at around £2million by Hamburg, with a big wage package involved as well.
Brighi is wanted by some Italian clubs. Antunes made only five Serie A appearances last season for Roma but was a regular for his previous team, Pacos de Ferreira, before a £1m move to Italy.
His representative, Almaro Valenta, said: 'The future of Antunes is still very unclear. Bologna and Chievo want him and Celtic have made us an interesting proposal which we are considering.
'We will be told soon whether the player is in Roma's plans or if he will be sent to a team which will play him regularly. His situation will be resolved in the coming days.'
Antunes was wanted by several of Europe's top clubs when he quit Pacos de Ferreira last year.
Benfica, Sporting, Porto, Atletico Madrid, Auxerre and Aston Villa were all keen on securing his signature.
