Premier League Rumour Mill: Heinze interesting Hammers

West Ham want to buy Gabriel Heinze from Manchester United after learning Sir Alex Ferguson does not have to sell him to Liverpool.

The Hammers are happy to offer the Argentinian left back an escape route after the Football Association ruling that United are within their right to refuse to sell him to their rivals.

But it is believed the Red Devils are only prepared to sell Heinze to foreign opposition.

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun is already displeased at his lack of first team opportunities on Merseyside and his agent Ronen Katzav said: "He will think about moving to a medium-sized team if his chances remain restricted."

Blackburn's Aaron Mokoena has indicated he would love to play for Celtic or Rangers while West Brom are keen to offload striker John Hartson, who wants to join hometown club Swansea before the transfer window closes next Friday.

Spanish club Espanyol may bid for Manchester City striker Georgios Samaras and he could be replaced by Nicolas Anelka if he agrees to leave Bolton for a second stint at Eastlands while Chelsea hope an increased bid of £24.5m will seal a deal for Seville defender Daniel Alves.

Hibs have put a £1m price on the head of wantaway defender Rob Jones but Leeds are only willing to pay £400,000 while both PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord are keen on Newcastle striker Albert Luque.

Sheffield United are poised to make an improved £2m bid for Wigan winger Kevin Kilbane and Southampton want Derby defender Darren Moore, who used to play for South Coast rivals Pompey.

Rumour of the day: Newcastle will allow Obafemi Martins join Manchester United if they pay more than £13m for him.

No chance: Nicky Shorey and Leroy Lita will not be allowed to leave Reading before the transfer deadline.
