The Hammers are happy to offer the Argentinian left back an escape route after the Football Association ruling that United are within their right to refuse to sell him to their rivals.

Sheffield United are poised to make an improved £2m bid for Wigan winger Kevin Kilbane and Southampton want Derby defender Darren Moore, who used to play for South Coast rivals Pompey.
Rumour of the day: Newcastle will allow Obafemi Martins join Manchester United if they pay more than £13m for him.
No chance: Nicky Shorey and Leroy Lita will not be allowed to leave Reading before the transfer deadline.
