Kicked out? Obafemi Martins has slipped down the pecking order
Martins is struggling to live up to expectations this season and missed a sitter after leaving the bench towards the end of yesterday's 3-1 victory over West Ham.
Arsenal were interested in him in the summer and there will be no shortage of interested parties if he is told he can head out of St James' Park.
Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen isn't prepared to include a clause concerning his dodgy knee into any new contract.
The Denmark international is a key part of the bright start to the new season enjoyed by Villa but has missed substantial playing time in recent years because of injury.
Former AC Milan star Laursen wants a new deal but admitted: "I don't have a perfect knee but I am playing now, so I don't think it will have to be written into a contract.
"I don't think I will make a four-year contract. But I hope to make a two or a three-year deal if they want me here.
"We had a quick chat just before the last season ended. The manager (Martin O'Neill) said he was happy with me and I told him I am happy here as well. I like to play here. I like to play in England. It suits my game very much, so yes, we can talk about that."
Meanwhile, Aston Villa forward Shaun Maloney has told Celtic fans he is desperate to return to the Glasgow club in January.
Manchester United are ready to sign Burnley starlet John Kofi for £1m.
Rumour of the day: Middlesbrough will bid £5m for Bolton's Kevin Nolan when the transfer window reopens in January.
No chance: Former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender Ugo Ehiogu has no future at Ibrox and can leave in January if he finds a new club.
