Premier League Rumour Mill: Millwall boss Donachie slams Pompey, Chelsea and Liverpool over poaching

Millwall manager Willie Donachie has criticised Premier League club from trying to lure promising young players away from The Den.

Portsmouth, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with moves for the Lions' cubs in recent weeks with Pompey having bids for 17-year-old midfielder Tom Kilbey and 15-year-old goalkeeper Sam Walker rejected last week.

Concerns: Millwall manager Willie Donachie

Millwall fear they will only receive a pittance for their players if they fail to strike a satisfactory deal and the individual cases fo to a tribunal.

Donachie has now banned Premier League scouts from the MIllwall training ground to stop any underhand tactics and stormed: "We are wary – they're obviously trying to poach our players.

"We couldn't go to somewhere like Arsenal to watch their kids so we don't want them sniffing around here. I feel young players get a better chance at clubs like Millwall than ones in the Premier division.

"All the top clubs keep on buying foreign players, including Portsmouth, and I doubt if they've got a homegrown player in their side.

"I can understand the temptation for youngsters to go to a top flight side, but I've told Tom and Sam they will learn much more by remaining here. Portsmouth have made an offer to the club but I don't want to lose either of them."

Sunderland boss Roy keane will launch a £2m bid for QPR's former Southampton striker Dexter Blackstock in January if he continues to shine at Loftus Road and Hull boss Phil Brown is offering a lifeline to Middlesbrough striker Malcolm Christie.

Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson wants to strengthen his Blades squad before the weekend clash with Wolves and has Tottenham winger Wayne Routledge, Sunderland midfielder Graham Kavanagh and Wigan forward Kevin Kilbane in his sights.

But he reckons his best signing is Richard Hawkins, the sports fitness guru who has joined from West Brom to replace Tony Daley.

Hawkins has a doctorate and postgraduate degree in sports science from Loughborough University and was recruited by Robson two years ago after a similar reshuffle of his backroom staff at The Hawthorns.

Previously the deputy head of exercise science at the Football Association, he counts United striker Geoff Horsfield among his biggest supporters after the player credited him with prolonging his career.

Rumour of the day: Gillingham will approach Martin Allen about becoming the new manager.

No chance: Newcastle will not allow midfielder Emre to return to Turkey to join Galatasaray if they are not paid £3.5m.
