Premier League Rumour Mill: Taylor to Spurs

Tottenham are still keen on making a move for Portsmouth midfielder Matthew Taylor even though they have been told he is valued at £8million.

Spurs have offered half that sum for the versatile player who could solve their problems down the left side of their side.

Pompey have been linked with a move for Newcastle winger Nolberto Solano, who is also interesting West Ham.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is pleased with his side's undefeated start to the Premier League campaign but still wants to make a couple of new signings before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

The Peru player, currently in his second spell on Tyneside, wants to move south to be nearer his separated wife and his children and he said: "It causes me sorrow to have to make this decision. But my children have moved to London and I want to be near them. It's no secret that I have been separated for a while from my wife Claudia, who until recently lived here in Newcastle."

However the Hammers remain in the driving seat. Solano added: "Everything depends on West Ham actually making an offer. It is up to West Ham and Newcastle to decide. There are teams in Spain interested in me but I won't go. The only reason I will leave Newcastle is to go to London."

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is heading for Cardiff after his move to Leicester fell through while struggling Southampton will pay £1.2m for Burnley defender Wayne Thomas.

West Ham are still waiting to hear if Eidur Gudjohnsen will join them after Barcelona accepted their £7m bid and look sure to splash out a further £6m on Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer.

Cash-strapped Leeds need more funds to balance the books and are ready to part with Eddie Lewis and Jonathan Douglas.

Thomas Sorensen is seeking showdown talks with Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill after Scott Carson's arrival at Villa Park. Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson may be interested in running the rule over the Danish international after missing out on Carson.

Rumour of the day: Chelsea are adamant they will not pay more than £17m for Daniel Alves. Seville want £25m.

No chance: Chelsea's negotiations with Real Madrid over Arjen Robben have reached an impasse as the Blues will not let him leave for £27m.
