Premiership Rumour Mill: Tottenham look to bring in Barca striker Gudjohnsen

Tottenham are ready to end Eidur Gudjohnsen's spell in La Liga with Barcelona by bringing him to White Hart Lane.

Iceland international has been linked with a move back to London after failing to become a regular at the Nou Camp and would provide valuable goals and experience as Spurs attempt to gatecrash the Premiership's top four.

From Barca to Spurs? Eidur Gudjohnsen could be set to move back to London

Former Chelsea star Gudjohnsen could be deployed in an advanced attacking position from midfield as Spurs seek to build on the success they have enjoyed this season.

They are also considering a £10million move for Charlton striker Darren Bent but could be gazumped by West Ham's £12m move for the England forward, who would link up once again with former Addicks boss Alan Curbishley.

Sam Allardyce could also be interested in making Bent his first signing as Newcastle United manager with Obafemi Martins heading to either Juventus or Valencia.

The Hammers need more firepower after struggling this season and they are likely to be without talisman Carlos Tevez, who is set for a £30m move to Real Madrid which will not send a penny to Upton Park.

Spurs face competition from Everton and newly-promoted Sunderland for the services of Hammers midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker, who would prefer to remain in the capital.

But Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell is happy to move north of the Watford Gap and is still on course to become the Toon Army's latest recruit while Glen Johnson has snubbed a permanent move to Fratton Park as he prefers to fight for a place at Stamford Bridge.

Portsmouth and West Ham have made enquiries about Watford youngster Hameur Bouazza while Sheffield United face a fight to keep hold of Phil Jagielka and Michael Tongue after being relegated from the top flight.

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce wants to sign half a dozen new players after capturing Fabrice Muamba from Arsenal for £4m.

The Blues boss confirmed: "Hopefully he will be the first of five or six new players, of such ilk, who come through the door this summer. We want people like Fab at this club. He's young, enthusiastic, committed and he's a great character."

Wolves defender Jackie McNamara will sign a two-year deal with Aberdeen in the next couple of days even though the Molineux team can still be promoted to the Premiership.

Rumour of the day: Manchester United have finally agreed an £18m deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

No chance: Robbie Fowler will not join Glasgow Rangers because of his Roman Catholic upbringing on Merseyside and would rather join their rivals Celtic.
