Pressure-free Torres is a world beater for Liverpool warns Alonso

Xabi Alonso believes Fernando Torres can realise his full potential at Liverpool after being stifled by the pressure at Atletico Madrid.

Torres is thriving following a £20million summer switch and his goal against Reading on Saturday made him the first Reds player to score 20 in the League in a season since Robbie Fowler in 1996.

Fellow Spaniard Alonso doubts whether Torres, 23, could have made such progress had he remained at his boyhood club.

"Fernando has improved," said the Liverpool midfielder. "He has got rid of the pressure he had at Atletico. He is feeling comfortable playing with his team-mates at Liverpool and because of this he is getting better and better each day.

"He has shown he is not afraid of the physical contact here, with defenders trying to put him off, and that is really important."
