PSV want Alex back if Chelsea move fails

PSV today said they would welcome Alex back with open arms if Chelsea cannot solve the defender's work permit issues.

The 25-year-old Brazil international was held up by immigration officials at Heathrow for four hours on Sunday as they checked his status and he flew back to South America without holding scheduled talks at Stamford Bridge.

Work permit problems: Alex

Chelsea's initial work permit application was rejected and the appeal is not expected to be heard until next week.

They insist Alex was cleared to enter the country but with his future at the club uncertain PSV, where he has been "parked" for the last three years, are monitoring developments.

A spokesman for the Dutch club said: "Alex is always welcome back here. He is no longer a PSV player and first of all we have to see what Chelsea and the player want. But he is a great player and a great person who is loved by the fans, the players and the club."

Alex was refused a work permit because he has not played in 75 per cent of his country's games in the last two years — he has featured in just over half of them.

Chelsea face Brondby in a friendly in Copenhagen tonight.
