Quick Kimi targets successive wins

Kimi Raikkonen remained on target for back-to-back victories after posting the fastest practice time of the weekend ahead of the British Grand Prix.

The Finn, who took the chequered flag in France six days ago for his second win with Ferrari and 11th of his career, was one of three drivers to dip under 80 seconds at the Silverstone circuit.

Fastest practice time: Kimi Raikkonen was in slick form at Silverstone on Saturday morning

Raikkonen was quickest yesterday with a time of one minute 20.639 seconds for the 5.141km Northamptonshire circuit.

But the 27-year-old today blazed round the track in final practice in 1:19.751, just under 0.2secs faster than the McLaren of Fernando Alonso, setting him up perfectly for qualifying.

The reigning double world champion was a remarkable 1.7secs quicker than his best time of yesterday, clocking 1:19.920.

The Spaniard split the Ferraris as Felipe Massa was third fastest, just over 0.2secs down on Raikkonen.

Home hero and championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who was fastest in first practice yesterday, was nearly 0.6secs off the pace in fourth.

The Williams of Nico Rosberg and Ralf Schumacher in his Toyota were fifth and sixth respectively at the end of the hour-long run, but around a second down on the flying Raikkonen.

The top 10 was completed by Tonio Liuzzi for Toro Rosso, Heikki Kovalainen for Renault, BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld and Anthony Davidson in his Super Aguri.

Fellow Britons David Coulthard, who yesterday signed a new deal for next season with Red Bull, and Jenson Button in his Honda were a lowly 18th and 19th.

At least Button was back in the car after sitting out second practice with a back spasm, a hangover of the injury he sustained during the United States Grand Prix in Indianapolis three weeks ago.
