Quins waste chances as Sarries romp home

Saracens maintained their steady Guinness Premiership title bid, but Harlequins, without a win since October, will know that their own lack of composure ill-equip them for a relegation fight.

All Quins had to show for their early dominance was an Adrian Jarvis penalty.

Coming through: Rodd Penney scores for Saracens

It took Saracens 25 minutes to enter opposition territory yet, within a minute of doing so, they were level when Glen Jackson struck over a penalty after the home scrum crumbled.

Five minutes before the break, giant Sarries' prop Cencus Johnston deftly released Ratuvou Kameli, whose cross-kick was gathered by a leaping Neil de Kock to touch down. Jackson converted.

Jarvis' second penalty, a minute after the break offered Quins hope but Jackson clipped over a second penalty and then Kevin Sorrell's neat pass sent Brent Russell under the Quins' posts.

Quins refused to surrender, replacement Tani Fuga crashing over midway through the half, after Mike Brown's interception but it was a shortlived reprieve.

Rodd Penney was scampered under the posts with the Quins defence shredded, to re-instate a 14-point lead that was enough to survive Ugo Monye's late try.
