manager Juande Ramos is determined to keep Dimitar Berbatov at White Hart Lane for one more season and scupper the striker's dream move to Manchester United.
The Bulgarian cut a disinterested figure in the club's 5-0 win over Roma in their final pre-season game at home on Saturday and was taken off after playing the first 45 minutes.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate to land a new striker and Berbatov had made clear his desire to join the European champions.
But Ramos is keen to keep hold of Berbatov as his new-look Spurs side takes shape following the arrival of several high-profile signings, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Dimitar Berbatov
'I would be absolutely delighted if Berbatov was still at the club after the end of the transfer window,' said the Spaniard.
'He is a magnificent player and we want to enjoy another season of him at this club. I can’t answer on behalf of the player, though.'
Tottenham remained unbeaten in the Rotterdam Tournament and Ramos is confident ahead of his side's Premier League opener at Middlesbrough.
'I’m happy with the work the team has done in general. The results are not so important but we have prepared very well for the new season,' said Ramos.
'There are lots of positives and the players have really made big efforts. There’s a lot of competition to get a place in the team, so that’s one of the biggest positives of all.'
