Rangers dealt cup blow while Cousin frustration continues

The unwelcome scenario for Rangers was confirmed this afternoon, with the Ibrox club having lobbied to have the last-16 game played on the Wednesday.
Instead it will go ahead in Germany on Thursday, March 13, leaving Rangers with little time to prepare for their Hampden date with Dundee United on Sunday, March 16.
Bremen fixed the tie for the Thursday to suit their television coverage deal, and the evening match will kick off less than 72 hours before Rangers line up in Glasgow for the Scottish season's first major final.
Further frustrating news for Rangers came today with FIFA insisting they are no nearer to resolving the situation involving Daniel Cousin's projected move to Fulham.
The Gabon striker had hoped to complete a move to the Barclays Premier League side last month, but the deal was put on hold due to the fact Cousin has already played for two clubs this season.
Appearing for a third club would contravene FIFA regulations, however Rangers and Fulham are hoping world football's governing body will consider the merits of Cousin's case.
The 31-year-old only briefly appeared for French club Lens at the start of the campaign before joining Rangers, however the £3million move to Fulham remains on hold.
Rangers boss Walter Smith called at the weekend for FIFA to deliver a final ruling and end the suspense, but a decision may not arrive this week.
"The matter is still pending," said a FIFA spokesman. "There is no time frame yet."
