Ranieri's vision for City

Former Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri claims he has agreed a three-year deal to become the next Manchester City manager. As revealed by Sportsmail two weeks ago, the Italian is the first choice of former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is in the process of buying the club for £90million.

Ranieri, 55, has told the Italian media he has agreed to fill the position left vacant by the sacking of Stuart Pearce as long as the takeover goes ahead and on Thursday night resigned as coach of Parma to clear his path to the City job.

Ranieri said: "European coach is written on my passport, a label which I carry with pride.

"Right now, English soccer is an unbelievable showcase. There are seven-eight top-level teams. It's like it was years ago in Italy.

"I created the Chelsea miracle, starting from nothing. Then came the mountains of money and an abundance of star players — and other coaches. With Manchester City, I'm hoping to complete the entire journey."
