Reading put Shorey contract talks on ice until relegation fight decided

Reading will not renew contract talks with their England left-back Nicky Shorey until their fight to avoid relegation from the Barclays Premier League future has been resolved - one way or the other.

Shorey's current deal expires in the summer of 2009 and Reading want to tie him to a long-term deal - but all talks have been put on hold until the summer.

Shorey: England full-back must wait to decide his future

Reading are currently third from bottom of the Premier League table and one of six teams separated by just seven points who are battling against relegation.

Reading's director of football Nick Hammond told the club's website readingfc.co.uk: "We have held discussions but nothing will happen in the near future.

"We have both agreed we will revisit the situation in the summer."

Shorey broke into the England team under Steve McClaren, making his debut against Germany at Wembley, and he was included in Fabio Capello's first 30-man squad.
