Real could appeal against Beckham's booking

Real Madrid could appeal against the yellow card shown to David Beckham during Sunday's match against Athletic Bilbao which would see him suspended for next weekend's showdown with Sevilla.

Beckham was booked in the 74th minute of the 4-1 victory for apparent time-wasting and, as it was his 10th caution of the season, means he would have to sit out Sunday's match against second-placed Sevilla at the Bernabeu.

Set for suspension: The ten-times booked David Beckham

However, Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic said they would study the incident to see if there is a chance they can get the booking overturned.

"If it is possible to appeal against it, we will do it," he said.

Madrid coach Fabio Capello admits it would be a blow to lose Beckham, but refused to comment on whether he thought the booking was correct.

"I don't want to talk about Beckham's card, nor anything to do with the referees," he said after the match.

"(Beckham's absence) would be a very big loss. Now he is in very good form and against Athletic he had a great game."

If Beckham is suspended for the Sevilla game then he would only have a maximum of five matches left for Madrid before he departs for Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy this summer.
