Redknapp in attack on Quinn

Harry Redknapp yesterday reacted furiously to Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn's claims that Portsmouth have paid inflated prices for new signings this summer.

Redknapp has spent £20million of owner Alexandre Gaydamak's money to take Sulley Muntari, John Utaka and David Nugent to Fratton Park.

He was particularly annoyed that Quinn should accuse Portsmouth and West Ham of signing over-priced players, as Sunderland were prepared to match the £6m he paid Preston for Nugent, and then spent £5m on Cardiff's Michael Chopra.

Speaking in Hong Kong after his side had beaten Liverpool on penalties to lift the Asia Trophy, Redknapp briefly tried to duck the issue, but then launched an attack on Quinn.

"It's nothing to do with Niall Quinn is it?" he stormed. "He should stop poking his nose into other people's business.

"They offered the same money as we did for David Nugent — have they got short memories or something? Did they pay too much for Chopra? Only time will tell.

"It's none of their business. They should just concentrate on their club and we'll do the same."
