Reds should walk out at Chelsea with famous Liverpool swagger, says Anfield legend Alan Hansen

Alan Hansen insists that Liverpool should walk out with a swagger in their Champions League second leg at Chelsea next week.

The BBC pundit claims that his former club should walk out at Stamford Bridge with the knowledge of a team that has reached the final twice in the past three seasons.

Hansen said: "If the negative is that Liverpool have a horrific recent record at Chelsea, the positive is that they have a great record in this competition at the semi-final stage and Chelsea have got a bad record.

"That's why Rafa Benitez will be focusing on the positives. He knows he has got the players who can turn it round even though Chelsea might be favourites now.

"Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard didn't play particularly well last night, but Benitez knows that they can turn the game in two seconds flat. So although I would want to be in Chelsea's position as favourites now, it would be no surprise if Liverpool beat them.

"It wouldn't surprise me if it goes to extra-time and penalties again. Liverpool might have won the game by two or three last night when they weren't playing particularly well and that shows you that when they have their best side on the pitch, they can compete with anybody.

"I've seen Liverpool play better. It's amazing that the two games against Arsenal and Chelsea at Anfield, they haven't played particularly well, but have come away with a result both times. If they go to Stamford Bridge and play as well as they can do, they can win."

Hansen offered sympathy towards John Arne Riise over the last-second own goal that altered the whole balance of the tie.

He added: "The difference between 1-0 and 1-1 is an absolute chasm. Riise should have cleared it with his right foot but he didn't. When it comes to you quickly in that situation, you just go with how you think is the best way of playing it. It just happens. He's a professional. He's just got to get up and get on with it."
