Referee found not guilty of swearing at Leeds manager Dennis Wise

Referee Danny McDermid has escaped punishment after being charged by the Football Association with using foul and/or abusive language towards Leeds manager Dennis Wise.

Wise was handed a two-match touchline ban, plus a suspended one-match ban, and fined £5,000 after being found guilty of the same offence during Leeds' controversial clash at Gillingham on September 29.

McDermid denied the charge and after a personal hearing the FA's disciplinary committee have found the match official not guilty.

An FA statement read: "At an independent regulatory commission hearing on Monday, a charge of using abusive and/or insulting words against referee Danny McDermid was found not proven.

"McDermid was charged in relation to an incident involving Leeds United manager Dennis Wise following the match against Gillingham on September 29. He denied the charge."

Leeds had both strikers, Tresor Kandol and then Jermaine Beckford, sent off at Priestfield before a last-minute goal from Gillingham's Ian Cox ended the Yorkshire club's 100 per cent record at the start of the season.

Wise was sent to the stands himself and the former Wimbledon and Chelsea midfielder claimed McDermid swore at him after the match.
