'Reluctant' Southend confirm Eastwood deal

Southend have confirmed they have 'reluctantly agreed' to sell Freddy Eastwood to Wolves on a four-year deal.

The fee for the 23-year-old striker is believed to be £2million.

Shooting star: Freddy Eastwood is on the move

Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin told the club's official website: "Freddy has been an integral part of our success, but the time had come for him to move on."

"As a club we were reluctant sellers, but we want all of our players to be devoted to the cause.

"Freddy goes with our blessing and we wish him every success."

Eastwood, 23, has scored 49 goals in 111 appearances for the Shrimpers and caught the eye with several dazzling displays last term, including scoring the winning goal to knock Manchester United out of the Carling Cup.

Wolves fought off competition from Charlton for the forward's signature.

The Addicks instead signed their third striker of the summer - with Svetoslav Todorov coming in on a free transfer to join Chris Iwelumo and Luke Varney.
