Respect initiative doesn't work says Gallas

Heralded by chief executive Brian Barwick as a way of solving the game's problems, it was supposed to promote a better relationship between players and referees.
But Gallas, who as skipper of Arsenal is allowed to talk to the match official, believes the scheme is causing too many problems for his team-mates.
The 31-year-old said: "There were some very late challenges going in from Fulham in the game last week, but what can you do?
"Players are not allowed to speak to the referee any more otherwise you will be booked yourself. It's very frustrating because there is nothing you can do. You're not allowed to talk to the referees and that's no good."
Gallas has now also taken the blame for Arsenal's 1-0 defeat at Craven Cottage and vowed to get their title bid back on track against Newcastle tomorrow after the 4-0 win over FC Twente.
The French centre-back said: "I didn't defend very well for the Fulham goal, I made a mistake."
