Ricky Hatton is told to stop his drinking

Ricky Hatton has been told by his trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr, to quit drinking between fights.

Hatton gained an 11th-round stoppage of light-welterweight rival Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas and wants a showdown with Oscar De La Hoya or Manny Pacquiao next year at Wembley. He has also hinted at a rematch with Mayweather Jr, the only fighter to have beaten him in 46 professional fights.

But Mayweather Sr believes the 30-year-old must change his ways if he is to beat the best.

"It's something I'm very concerned about," he said. "I've told him he can forget about whupping those guys if he's going to continue that kind of life. It's very simple.

"The less he gets into drinking alcohol the longer his career is going to last. Alcohol and eating bad, he's got to be leaving that stuff alone."
