Robinson double fires Swans top while Alexander treble helps Lions down Seagulls

Gary Alexander's hat-trick saw Millwall enjoy a 3-0 home victory over Brighton at the New Den to stay just ahead of the Coca-Cola League One relegation zone.

Alexander had failed to score in 22 matches this season but after netting in the seventh minute, the Lions tore into the play-off seeking Seagulls.

He added his second after 54 minutes and completed an unlikely treble 19 minutes from time with a penalty.

Two goals: Andy Robinson

One year ago to the day Millwall - then second bottom - won 4-1 at bottom side Brentford to srak a remarkable run and manager Kenny Jackett will be looking for something similar this season.

Swansea moved top with a 4-1 home win over struggling Cheltenham as Nottingham Forest could only draw 0-0 at Oldham.

Swansea, starting the day second, were ruthless. Andy Robinson (18) kicked things off with a headed opener and added another two minutes later.

Ferrie Bodde and Jason Scotland made it 4-0 inside 78 minutes, while Steven Gillespie's overhead kick was a mere consolation for Town.

Forest had chances at Boundary Park but were unable to provide a cutting edge, with a draw the fair result.

Jermaine Beckford's 90th-minute equaliser earned battling Leeds a point at Hartlepool to keep them third ahead of Carlisle.

Michael Nelson's header after 20 minutes had left Dennis Wise's side trailing for most of the match but their persistence paid off when Beckford drove the ball home in the last minute.

Carlisle slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Tranmere with Paul McLaren (16) and Antony Kay (45) doing the damage for Rovers.

Walsall conceded sixth place to Doncaster, scraping a 1-1 draw at Port Vale despite having 10 men.

Marc Laird gave Vale an early lead and the Saddlers, despite having Danny Fox sent off for a second booking after 69 minutes, grabbed a draw through Michael Ricketts' header deep into added time.

Doncaster jumped three places courtesy of a 2-0 win at home to Northampton, James Coppinger and Adam Lockwood scoring the goals before half-time.

Bournemouth climbed off the bottom with a brilliant 3-1 victory at home to high-flying Leyton Orient.

The Cherries moved up to 21st as Max-Alain Gradel (19) and Sam Vokes (54) gave them a 2-0 lead. Brian Saah pulled one back but James Henry added a late third to seal the win.

Struggling Luton drew 1-1 at Bristol Rovers - despite having three men sent off.

Chris Coyne was dismissed for a professional foul on Andrew Williams and Richard Lambert scored the resulting penalty.

Two quick bookings saw Steve Robinson dismissed before the break but somehow David Edwards got an equaliser early in the second half.

Anthony Grant was sent off for a bad foul on Andrew Williams but the Hatters held on.

Barry Corr's 66th-minute strike helped Swindon beat 10-man Yeovil 1-0 at Huish Park, as Terry Skiverton was sent off for violent conduct in the 78th minute.

Ten-man Gillingham earned a 1-1 draw at home to Southend with a late Adam Miller equaliser.

The Shrimpers led through Peter Clarke's header 10 minutes after the break but despite seeing Stuart Thurgood sent off for a bad challenge, Miller popped up two minutes from time to score.

Huddersfield and Crewe drew 1-1.
