Leaking of World Cup reports has left players feeling abused, says Chris Robshaw
24 November 2011
The reports, published yesterday, revealed that England players were stunned the Harlequins flanker was left out of the 30-man squad after impressing in pre-World Cup training.
Despite that praise, Robshaw today spoke of his unease at the players' confidence being broken. "The most upsetting thing is the players gave their views in private in order to improve things and take English rugby forward," said the
25-year-old, who has one cap.
"Unfortunately, it has not come across that way and players have been made to look foolish. Players who have given everything for club and country have been a bit abused.
"It is unfortunate and at Quins we have to focus on ourselves and maintaining the successful start to the season and generate positive headlines to promote those players who want to perform for England."
The latest revelations from the leaked documents detail the anger felt by key sponsors who fund the Rugby Football Union to the tune of £8million, with Land Rover still fuming over the attitude of players who took part in a driving event during the tournament.
Meanwhile, the RFU's chief disciplinary officer, Judge Jeff Blackett, is appointing an independent investigator to take charge of the inquiry into the source of the leak.
